TRAFFIC COATING

Traffic Coating vs. Concrete Slab Waterproofing Coating

Having a project of new construction, or upgrading an existing structure or performing maintenance on concrete areas? Let’s try to organize the options that you have so you can choose the best one for your project. Contractors may offer you one of the two options: traffic coating or concrete slab waterproofing membrane/coating to protect concrete slabs. While both are waterproofing sealants for concrete, to do one of the application will serves you with a different purposes. Understanding how these sealants are used and where they should be applied will help you determine the best decision to make for your own project.

Traffic Coating

Concrete surfaces that experience frequent footsteps traffic will experience wear and tear. This will affect the lifespan of the concrete and will demand high necessary maintenance. also in most of the cases it will be exposed to the weather that will lead to Abrasion is as damaging as freezing and thawing. the traffic coatings are polyurethane based on elastomeric properties. that will provides protection from UV damage, as well as bridges existing small cracks in the concrete, and improves the sustainability of your surface. IHC GROUP given a wide variety of standard colors, as well as custom colors and textures. Any project can have aesthetic look without compromise on the durability, also can be blending in with surrounding surfaces like brick or stonework, granite, tile, brick or other patterns we can also apply textured finishes.

Concrete Slab Waterproofing Membrane

Usually slab have another coating applied on top of it. structures like that are typical for exterior decks and balconies. in those cases we have to protect both slabs with an unpenetrated waterproofing system between the layers. Otherwise, the water or moister penetrating will damage the integrity of the slabs. This will create a variety of problems that affect not just the slabs, but also surrounding structures in some cases if it’s not been taking care of. on top of the slab waterproofing we usually utilizes an elastomeric polymer based membrane. It is applied on top of the slab’s surface as a spray coating. That will creates a waterproof barrier between the concrete slab and the top coating surface. the slab will be protected from moisture that occurs by rain or snowfall, and from moisture that might come upward from the ground. Why it’s necessary to do it? The most common reasons for problems in concrete slabs is water damage. concrete slabs that didn’t get the right protection is not impervious to water. In fact, where water is concerned, you can consider the unsealed concrete to acts like a sponge. A sponge that absorbs moisture very slowly, because concrete is actually quite porous. Once moisture gets in, it can then freeze when cold weather sets in. This causes a freeze/thaw effect which causes the concrete to expand and contract. and that’s very bed for the concrete integrity. Shrinkage will eventually lead to cracks. Cracks will become areas of weakness in the slab that can lead to slab failure and require repairs that can be expensive to fix in most of the cases it will have to be demoed and rebuild again. Moisture from below causing problems as the moisture that comes from above where concrete slabs are concerned. Water and and usually water vapor can rise up from an underlying concrete slab and cause the flooring to warp or lose adhesion. Seams typically become separated, air bubbles form and flooring or tile eventually buckle and could begin to grow mold and mildew. These problems originate from the underlying slab not being properly protected with a waterproofing sealant. A quality concrete coating system these moisture issues will be avoided. The right coatings will protect your slab and also enhance the aesthetic appeal of exposed surfaces. If you have a project in mind, please contact us.
